Olden Wooden Box

My husband and I have been working in the basement this weekend, as well as another evening this week.  We have sorted through almost everything in there and separated it into areas, for yard sale, Good Will donations, keep here, take to the Lake House, etc.  We have the entire center area clear of items, and soon hope to have much of what is left either donated or sold.  We are two tired people!  Up and down those stairs sooooo many times.  The good thing is, it is now in order, and in the process I cleaned out an area and set up a little table and shelves for my paint, and fun stuff! It doesn't look good enough to show you yet, but I will before too long.  We plan to have some more electrical outlets run and ceiling fans hung, as well as painting the concrete floors.  The area covers about 2600 feet, so if we wanted to spend the money, we could have a whole other house down there.  That's not going to happen!  We need the storage so that's what it will be.

Anyway.....I came across this rather plain utilitarian wooden box.  I remember in the early seventies when my first husband and I rented a home just north of here, he had our landlord build this little box to store 8-track tapes in.  He was a truck driver at the time, and needed a place to keep his tapes.

Here's the front.  I love the little fastener.

The back.  You can see it's pretty banged up.

Well this little box was just begging for a makeover.  So what did I do accept get out the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and go to work.

After allowing time for it to dry, I sanded it, added a couple of french graphics from the Graphics Fairy, and here is the final product!

 Isn't she a beaut?

 Love the changes don't you?

 Added a doily

 Isn't it pretty!

I've decided I will cover the inside with pretty paper.  I'll give an update then.
Update:  OK, I've covered the inside of the lid with some left over scrap paper, and added more treasures.  What do you think?

A side note:  the little spatula in front of the white box, was used by my mother while I was growing up.  We found it while cleaning out an old cabinet in the basement on Saturday.
