Decorating for Christmas

I am one tired lady!!  I've worked all day, decorating for Christmas.  I don't have the tree up yet, but the mantel is done, and a few other spots have some vignettes done.  The dining room table is set with Christmas dishes, a wreath is on the front door, and this year, I hung a lighted garland across the front porch rail.   I made bows this morning, and got that up this afternoon.

The only part I'm sharing in this post is the mantel.  I am using white, gold, and red this year, with some green of course.  I used the lighted garland on the mantel, and pushed in some golden sparkly mesh ribbon.

I decided to add a punch of red and did so by adding 3 red and gold ornaments.  Then at each end, I added the birch log candles that I bought last year.  They blend in really well.

I moved the faux paper whites to the hearth and added a red and gold ribbon.

The wreath I hung on the mirror is one I made last year.  It was silver and white with silver snowflakes.  I added some of the gold mesh ribbon that I used on the mantel to the wreath so they would match.

So there is part I: the mantel for 2014.  I'll be back in a day or two with more Christmas decor.

Christmas Past

Last Christmas, I decorated with aqua.  I really enjoyed it, but I think this year, I will use more traditional colors.  I haven't started decorating yet, but will probably start on Friday.  I hope I can keep it simple.  (That's hard for me).  So in a couple of days, I'll show you how it's going.

Now, just a few shots from Christmas Past.

Have you already decorated for Christmas?  I just can't do it until Thanksgiving is over.

Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!

More Thanksgiving Decor

You have all seen the little hall cabinet that I use as a side table in the dining room.  I love decorating the top for the seasons, so here is how it looks at the moment.

I removed some stacked cake stands and brought in this wonderful turkey platter.

I love all the wonderful colors.  They are very realistic.

I tucked a fall floral bush beside it.

On the opposite end of the table, I have my vintage sewing drawer filled with fall florals, with a small Mason jar full of old spoons tucked inside the drawer.

I didn't change out the runner, because this one is my favorite, and its colors work well with the items on the table.

None of this is new.  I've mostly stopped buying things for the house for about the last 4 or 5 months.  I just don't need to bring more in.  I have about 20 large bins full of stuff that I switch out all the time, so rather than buying more, I need to purge those bins first, and there's not much I would get rid of. So that's how it is around here.  :)

Three Great Finds for Less Than Twenty Dollars

I've had the day to myself, so I made a trip to my favorite consignment shop.  It turned out to be a great day to go.  First I found this fabulous picture with the "new" price still on the back at $59.99, for $13.99.  The frame, glass, and mat are in perfect condition, and I love pictures of houses.  The colors are perfect in the family room, so I hung it above the loveseat.

I almost walked away, but I knew I would be sorry I didn't buy it at such a great price.

This photo above is a little dark, but shows it hanging above the love seat.
This shot shows the family room, coming in from the front door.

The consignment store had a bunch of stuff on the sidewalk priced at $2.00, and I bought 2 totes at $2.00 each.  They are new.  As far as I'm concerned, you can't have too many totes.

The one above is black and pink, with pink lining on the inside.

This one is turquoise and white with blue lining, plus it had a small change purse with it.

All in all, I think these were great deals.  I'll be using the totes this weekend, and I've already hung the picture.

November Mantel

Time to change the mantel for the month of November.  At first I added some small items to the mantel, but after living with it a couple days, I started over.  Just too much, and the focal point (small sign) just didn't have enough presence.

First try....fail!

2nd try
Off came all the items, and I started over.
The taller pieces give a simpler and more substantial look to the mantel.  All the small items made a messy display.

Maybe I can live with this for a couple more weeks and then the Christmas decorating will begin.

But for now,
Harvest Blessings everyone!

Burlap and Lace Runners

We've all seen the different types of burlap runners all over blogland.  I've found a simple way to have them without sewing, gluing, or doing anything.  All you will need for these is a pair of scissors.

I found this roll of burlap with lace already attached, a while back at Wal Mart, in the wedding section!!  The roll has about five yards on it, and cost either $5.99 or $6.99, I can't remember.

Here are the places I've used this for runners.  First I measured and cut off enough to cover this large table on my side of the bed.  I have sleep apnea and require a bunch of paraphanalia, so I use a long table as my night stand.

I also cut a section to fit the night stand on the other side of the bed.

I only had a small piece left, just perfect for the coffee table.

I wish I had bought more than one roll, and plan to see if there is any left, next time I go to WM.

If you need runners, this is a great idea to get them at a great price, and really easy.
