How to Update a Room Without Spending

Recently I posted about how I've lightened my décor throughout the house, all except the guest room.  That had to be changed, and I figured out a way to do it without spending a dime.

BEFORE:

Fine for the Autumn/Winter months, but a little too dark for the Spring and Summer.

Here's what I did.

First I swapped out the dark brown curtains for these breezy, lacy toppers that I've had for a long time.

To lighten the comforter, I simply reversed (flipped over) it to the solid taupe side. The winter side has swede inserts which the back doesn't have, so this works out great for the warmer months.

Just pretend you don't see my reflection in my PJ's in the mirror!  :)

I folded a light colored quilt at the foot of the bed, and swapped out the burlap pillow for one with a lighter fabric and feel.

AFTER:

Looking in from the hallway.

This was probably one of the quickest, and most frugal makeovers I have ever done.  Nothing much simpler than flipping over a comforter, and switching out window treatments.

Now every room in the house has been brightened up for the warmer months.
