Life Goes On

I went to bed before 9 last night with the intention of watching the latest episodes of "A Place to Call Home"  (Acorn TV).  Maybe 15 minutes into it, I was falling asleep, so I turned off the tv and allowed my tired body to rest.  Now I'm awake at 2 AM, so I thought I'd do a blog post and show you how my house looks after the Christmas decor has been put away, well all but a few things that I made slight changes to for the winter season.  I find I'm settling easily and getting accustomed to being on my own.  I've always been able to find things to do, and this time is no different.  I keep myself busy and anytime friends or family want to go somewhere, I go along with them.  Anyway, back to the changes in the house.

This is the breakfast nook, and I added the yellow GW placemats to bring out the yellow in the tablecloth.

A GW rooster sits under a cloche as the centerpiece.

To have more room in the breakfast nook, I swapped this table from the master to here.  It can serve as a buffet.  It also has a GW rooster under a cloche to carry the theme.

The corner cabinet holds a GW pitcher sporting a fancy rooster, as well.

My Mother's pie safe features farm animals on top, and above, on the wall.  I think all these pieces are goodwill finds except the chicken which I found years ago at a consignment shop.

I moved the bombe table into the breakfast room for storage.  The small jelly cupboard that was here belonged to my estranged husband's mother so I sent it with him.  This works great here.  The "Blessed" sign is a stick on from the Dollar Tree.  They remove easily and do not damage the wall.  Everything on top of the table is from GW except the rooster.

The hall tree has a mixture of items.  I found this small tureen at GW and decided to sit it here.  The farm scene picture came from there as well.  The tulips bring the hope of Spring.

On the bottom shelf, the snow men still remind us it's Winter.

I removed the red from the urn above and added cotton, a white ribbon, and a snow flake.  This will work well on the hearth all winter.

Corner of the living room

This runner came from Big Lots.

I moved the tea cart to the window and have lots more room with it here.

A winter garland was left on top of the china cabinet.

I have used blue or turquoise in all my rooms, and will share the guest room with you soon.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!!

The Master of My Own Suite

Had anyone told me less than a week ago that I would be getting divorced, I would have declared them a liar, yet that is what is going on in my life at the present time.  No warning, no reason, blindsided totally.  A few things now that I look back were kinda wierd, and I questioned them, but pat answers were ready and I let it go.  I try not to have ill feelings in my home.  But after a 10 day stay ALONE at the lakehouse, my husband came home last Friday night and informed me he was tired of walking on egg shells.  The only time things get wonky aroun here, is when he criticizes my daughter and grandchildren.  They were here first, and are my heart, and he knew that because we had been friends since 1981!!  But whatever will be, will be.  I won't beg him to stay, in fact I have insisted that he get his belongings out of the living area of the house so I could get on with the things I need to do.  Don't think you can shock me and I will give everything I've worked for away.  NOT GONNA HAPPEN, so if he's not happy hear he can live a lonely life away from all who love him, and I will be fine.  I have the Heavenly Father who guides my footsteps and watches over me all the time.  So I'll get on with my life as quickly as possible......and that does not include anyone of the male species!!

I went last Sunday to the Hen's Nest Consignment and bought me a full size metal bed.  It was originally gray with a hint of blue.  Well you know it had to be aqua, so I used 2 cans of Valspar Secluded Garden paint with primer, and here is the first stab at setting up my master suite.

I've always wanted my bed between these windows, but beds I've had were just too bulky.  That can't be said about this little gem!  I love it and it was less than 200 dollars.

I also purchased the table to the left of the bed. I got the comforter set and matching quilt at Wal Mart.  I purchased new mattress and box springs for less than $300, delivery first thing the next day!!

My recently purchased chest from Good Will  is perfect for me so I moved it from the closet into my master suite!!  You've seen the door I painted a few years back.  I love changing out the decor, and have already moved it to the other side of the room!

I kept this white table in the room.

 brought in a small tv

I found this wonderful electric heater/fireplace at Lowe's and it is great to knock off the chill in the room, plus the beauty of the fire.

The ottoman and pillow I covered make a nice "chair".

I will do an updated post shortly and show you the changes already made, and show you the heater with the fire on.  I can see myself on a cold day, just relaxing in this room.  My daughter and I have talked about making a sitting area in here, there's plenty of room for one, but I'm loving all the open space.  But y'all know me, I'm open to change in my decor!

Those of you who believe in the power of prayer, I would appreciate your mentioning my  name when you pray.  At this point I don't want a reconciliation, and never will.  This is totally unbelievable, and has broken my entire family's hearts.  So, hopefully, we're not required to have litigation, because I have nothing to say, except, if this will make you happy, drive south quickly!!

I'm aging, and I don't have the time or energy for a bunch of drama that is purely stupid!  I just want this over now, so I can be settled and peace can return to my home.

Christmas Tour Part II

This is part II of the Christmas decor at Shadymont.  First, the guest bed room.  I changed it completely this year, to red.

The fall comforter was switched out to this white one, then I added red items, pillow shams, quilt, and curtains.

The island got it's touches of red.

 Keeping it simple

Red ornament hung in a green strainer

That's it for part II.  Stay tuned for other rooms coming soon, sun room, master, library, master bath, etc.

Christmas Tour, Part I

Today, I'm taking you on a partial tour of the house all decorated for Christmas.

On the front door, I have a spray rather than a wreath.

Just inside, in the foyer, is this piece that was given to the men at church for Father's Day.  I kept the 3 crosses on the inside, and draped, garland, poinsetias, and lights on the hooks on the front.

Next to the foyer is the dining room, where the tree is located.

The tree is new, and was the display tree at Lowe's, so I bought it already put together, fluffed, etc.  I came home and all I had to do was decorate it.

Touches of red brighten the china cabinet.  I inserted red ornaments and berries into various dishes.

Accross from the front door is the hall tree.  I have an angel tree topper on it this year and love the way it looks there.

Next up is the mantel and other areas in the living room.

I've changed the mantel some since I took this photo.  Just a little change or two.

The hearth has already been changed, too.  The arrangement is now on the dining room table as the center piece.

The coffee table and old square table beside the chair, both hold tray vignettes of Christmas items with fairy lights.

This tray holds an old black truck with a tree in the back.

Two pieces of milk glass flank the vignette here.

This arrangement is a hodge podge of items, but I like it.

This is the focal point in the room.

My brother brought me his entire collection of old vehicles, and I love them as Christmas decor!

Again, I've moved these aqua items to the library for a touch of Christmas in there.

Some of these areas have been tweaked a little and places changed.  Of course I'm known to do that up til Christmas Day, then the day after, I'll yank it all down and store it away!!

Come back in a couple of days for Part II.
